The Well

In The Wind-Up Bird, when the protagonist of the story gets overwhelmed by the pressures of the outside world while trying to locate his missing wife, he has to often turn within to find himself. During moments of nervous anxiety, he goes down into the well to reflect, to remember, and to then go out and execute as necessary.

I’ll be using this well for similar purposes. During the weary and low moments of my life, I’ll be staring at this page for inspiration, for guidance, for places to go and people to inspire me, and I’ll be adding to the list indefinitely. If you can think of anything else that belongs here, feel free to send me links or drop comments and help add to what you think belongs in the well.

Books

The Autobiography of Malcolm X. This book teaches you that no matter how low you go, you can rediscover your chosen calling in life. It’s never too late. Great book for those who don’t know how far they are.

The Alchemist. Anytime I’m feeling uncertain about the path I’m going down, I pick up this book and it fills me with resolve. If you’re feeling unease about where you’re ending up, I suggest you pick it up.

Movies

Groundhog Day. Amazing film that provides perspective on how precious time is to each of us. Think about what that film shows you about personal growth.

More to come.
